IBM Corporate Service Corps: Giving oneself at Lent, Seeking true purpose through prayer.

It is so apt that I will be deployed for IBM Corporate Service Corps during Lent.  Lent is a time of giving of our self to others with generosity and seeking a true sense of purpose through prayer.

In mid March to mid April in the period of Lent and ending before Easter, I will join 12 other IBMers to form Brazil 17 team to  Foraleza.   There is no better timing than this!

IBM launched the Corporate Service Corps (CSC) – inspired by the Peace Corps – in 2008 to advance the cause of global citizen diplomacy.  This year in 2014, as we celebrate the CSC’s 5th Anniversary, we pause briefly to reflect on the expertise that more than 2,400 IBMers in over 200 teams have contributed to addressing some of the world’s greatest societal challenges across more than 30 countries. By deploying our top talent to collaborate with governments, NGOs and communities in emerging markets, IBM not only have helped bring about meaningful and sustainable changes, but also have developed the capabilities of our emerging leaders and built lasting relationships with our clients around the world.

The program empowers IBMers as global citizens by sending groups of 10 to 15 individuals from different countries with a range of skills to an emerging market for four weeks of community-based assignments.  During the assignment, participants perform community-driven economic development projects working at the intersection of business, technology and society.

The Corporate Service Corps offers a triple benefit: leadership development for global IBMer leaders who are culturally aware and possess advanced skills, leadership training and development for the communities, and greater knowledge and enhanced reputation in the growth markets for IBM.

I believe that CSC has become the soul of IBM.  In these difficult times, the CSC shows us that IBMers continue to make a difference to the community.  I am truly blessed and grateful to be selected and my managers are supportive to release me for a month towards community service.   May God perform His wonderful works in Fortaleza and my assigned organization Iteva through me as his humble servant and also our team.
